Acknowledgement of Place & Aloha ‘Āina
We acknowledge that we are settlers – Stephanie a fifth-generation settler and Joel a first-generation settler – to the pae ‘āina o Hawai‘i, the territory recognized by Indigenous Hawaiians as their ancestral grandmother, Papahānaumoku. We recognize that the last reigning monarch Queen Lili‘uokalani yielded the Hawaiian Kingdom under duress to avoid the bloodshed of her people, and we also recognize that Hawai‘i remains an illegally occupied state of America. We further recognize that generations of Indigenous Hawaiians and their knowledge systems shaped Hawai‘i in sustainable ways that allow us to live here today. We stand in solidarity with Hawaiian sovereignty and we support the varied strategies the Indigenous peoples of Hawai‘i are using to protect their land, their language, and their communities.
Disclaimer
ponyponytail was founded out of a desire for equity and representation in the wellness, outdoor, and digital spaces. As such, we support those working for collective liberation and fighting social and political injustices in our immediate community and around the world. We will never care more about profit than we do about compassion, justice, and sustainability. We are anti-racist and anti-individualist. We are pro-choice and pro-gender-affirming healthcare. As an out queer couple, we recognize that the rights we have today were made possible by the Black trans women that came before us.
